A Town Mayor tradition is to visit the residents of the Street’s Meadow care home in the centre of town (just behind Waitrose) on Christmas Day. Well having young children and 11 for dinner on Christmas Day, they kindly allowed me to pop in a day early to say Merry Christmas!
I was given a guided tour and said hello to many people! One lovely lady commented on how young I was to be a Mayor – when I told her how old I was, she said I looked about 16! Bless – but I’m taking it – don’t get many comments like that!
I used to work with older people when I was younger, both on post Op wards and on dementia wards. I often did ‘bank’ work, nursing in various homes around the Bournemouth area – so I have a little bit of knowledge with regards to these types of care homes. I have to say, it has such a nice feel, very homely. The staff look happy at work, it’s comfortable, warm, colourful, just a brilliant place for this type of care and largely spaces are given to local people – which is another positive for residents i.e. to be close to home at a time of their lives when they require that additional support. Well done Streets Meadow!
