The Magic Table

On Friday I went along to the ClarC on King Street to see the ‘Magic Table’.  The Dementia Society of Wimborne chaired by Cllr Mrs Sue Cook, invited me to come along and have a look at their new exciting piece of kit designed especially for those with Dementia.

The group fund raised to get the £10,000 needed for the specially designed projector that has interactive images and games designed to stimulate and entertain.  We all had a go!  Wimborne Minster Town Council granted £3000 towards this very worthy cause. Clearly other people and organisations felt the same as it took no time at all to reach the target, including Waitrose who were there to present their oversized cheque!

Pramacare – a Dorset based charity, are facilitating the use of the equipment and it will be seen around Wimborne Minster, including in Streets Meadow.

60th Wedding Anniversary!

The Cossins

I went to a couple of enjoyable engagements in town last week.  The first was to pay a visit to a Mr and Mrs Cossins whos daughter invited me and Chris Brown the Town Crier as a surprise for her parents.  It was their 60th wedding anniversary – yes complete with a card from the Queen!

A super spread was put on – never see so much cake in one place!!  Bumped into Marilyn Barber of the Stour & Avon who also wanted to capture a few words from the couple.  They got married in Wimborne Minster and have lived in the same house that John carried Eileen over the threshold of – how romantic.  Although retired now, Eileen still dabbles in the family business and both still make regular trips to India where they have done a great deal of charity work over the years helping young people to get an education and better facilities!

Chris did an amusing ‘cry’ in their back garden which the rain held off for and then we celebrated with a toast to the couple (mine was Ribena as I’m doing ‘stoptober’)!
